Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative
Washoe County Juvenile Services was selected in 2004 as a site for the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) through the Annie E. Casey Foundation. That experience introduced reforms such as using objective detention criteria, expanding safe community-based alternatives, reducing case processing delays, addressing disparities, and ensuring safe conditions of confinement. Building on our past involvement with JDAI, these principles remain central to our ongoing practice and continue to guide our efforts to promote public safety, promote accountability, and support positive outcomes for youth and families.
